Dr Ron Binetter
MBBS, FRANZO, FRACS
Ophthalmic Surgeon
Dr Ron Binetter is one of Australia’s most experienced cataract and laser eye surgeons, with a career spanning more than 30 years and over 35,000 procedures performed.
He graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales before completing specialist ophthalmic training at Sydney Eye Hospital. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) in 1990 and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 1991.
In the early 1990s, Dr Binetter was among the first Australian surgeons to adopt phacoemulsification – small incision, sutureless cataract surgery – combined with foldable intraocular lens implantation. In 1995, he undertook fellowship training in LASIK in the USA and Canada, learning directly from international pioneers Dr Stephen Slade and Dr Jeff Machat.
Since then, Dr Binetter has continued to refine his skills and has built an international reputation as a leader in cataract surgery, lens implant procedures and refractive laser eye surgery.
