Dr Shane Higgins

Dr Shane Higgins is one of Brisbane’s most experienced obstetricians and infertility specialists. Since delivering his first baby in 1985, he has cared for more than 6,000 women and families, maintaining a strong commitment to patient autonomy and empowering women to have positive birth experiences.

A graduate of the University of Queensland in 1985, Dr Higgins completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at major teaching, regional and rural hospitals across Queensland, including the Royal Flying Obstetric Service. He also trained in reproductive medicine at Queensland Fertility Group, where he has been a fertility specialist for more than 20 years.

Dr Higgins has extensive experience in high-risk pregnancies, multiple births, vaginal births after Caesarean section (VBAC) and general obstetrics, with a consistent focus on supporting safe, natural deliveries wherever possible. He also offers pre-conception care, fertility treatment and gynaecological services, including advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

With over 18 years of dedicated fertility practice, Dr Higgins is known for his thoughtful, family-oriented approach. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and a member of the Doctors National Advisory Committee of Virtus Health, one of the world’s leading infertility service providers.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Higgins has been part of Mater for more than 30 years. He has a special interest in caring for women from the deaf community, inspired by his eldest daughter’s hearing impairment, and remains active in community-based charities such as the Zonta Birthing Kit Project for developing countries.
